- Days 3 & 4 -
The Dolomites are oh so majestic! - This was another "Wow" moment for us.
We were close to the Austrian border here, so we heard German spoken as well as Italian. Signage around town is also in both languages. Dinner this evening was a local specialty of dumplings in brown butter with a cold beer and Kaiserschmarren (fried dough with sugar and berries) for desert. No calories there! But oh so delicious.
After dinner we strolled around the small town of Castelrotto. Several homes are painted with biblical themes or my favorite, depicting the months of the year. We also discovered a cemetery behind the church. It's a bit unusual as all the grave markers are made of beautiful crafted iron. The contrast between the ironwork and the delicate flowers on the graves is interesting.
Following breakfast on our fourth day we were off on our hike. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and the cows really do wear bells!
A few of us broke off from the group and decided to climb to Panorama (6,591') and hike to the Rauschhutte for a hearty lunch. Our hike was rather invigorating and it felt good to be alive!
